Rick Stein’s Long Weekends – Vienna Locations
Rick Stein, one of my favourite TV chefs, did a series of “Long Weekends” a few years back and many of the restaurants he visited are still going strong.
I have been to a lot of them over the years, and have taken my parents to some down the years:
- Rick stayed at Motel One Staatsoper – https://www.motel-one.com/en/hotels/vienna/hotel-vienna-staatsoper/
- Cafe Schwarzenberg – http://www.cafe-schwarzenberg.at/
- Cafe Demel – http://www.demel.at/
- Trzesniewski Dorotheerstrasse – https://www.trzesniewski.at/
- Zur Herknerin http://zurherknerin.at/
- Meixner’s Gastwirtschaft http://www.meixners-gastwirtschaft.at/
- Hotel Imperial – http://www.imperialvienna.com
- Cafe Landtmann – http://www.landtmann.at/
- Rudi’s Beisl www.rudisbeisl.at
- Bitzinger @ Albertinaplatz https://www.bitzinger-wien.at/de/würstelstände/bei-der-albertina/
Yesterday we visited each venue!
Unfortunately the https://zurherknerin.at/ was closed but all others were open.
It was a great way to see the sites and tastes of Vienna.

Sorry to hear that you missed out on Zur Herknerin, but glad you got to the others! My Mum loves Rudi’s Beisl.
Mike,
Are the restaurants far away from city of Vienna?
I remember he went by tram on some?
Thankyou
Jeannette,
From the Staatsoper (where Rick was staying close to), the rough travelling times (foot for close by or tram/underground) are as follows:
Cafe Schwarzenberg – 5 mins walk (1 stop by tram)
Cafe Demel – 5-10 mins walk into the centre
Trzesniewski Dorotheerstrasse – 10-15 mins walk into the centre
Zur Herknerin 15-20 mins walk (2 stops by tram)
Meixner’s Gastwirtschaft (4 stops by underground)
Hotel Imperial 5 mins walk (1 stop by tram)
Cafe Landtmann 20-25 mins walk (4 stops by tram)
Rudi’s Beisl 20-25 mins walk (5 stops by tram)
Bitzinger @ Albertinaplatz – 3 minutes walk
That is at a gentle pace.
